Waiting on God during frustrating times can be one of the most challenging aspects of faith.
It’s easy to trust when things are going well, but when circumstances feel stagnant or overwhelming, patience can wear thin. This can be easier said than done. I’ll be honest, this chapter of my life has been one of the most challenging when it comes to my faith being tested. It can be even more frustrating when what you see doesn’t align with what God said or has shown you. Scripture reminds us that God’s timing is perfect, even when we don’t understand it. Isaiah 40:31 says, "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles." This promise highlights that waiting on God is not passive but a time of preparation, refining our character, and strengthening our faith. Holding onto this assurance in the face of frustration can transform our perspective, allowing us to trust that God is working even when we can’t see it.
Remaining faithful when you feel like giving up requires intentionality.
Faith isn't just about believing when things are easy; it’s about maintaining your trust in God's goodness when everything seems to be going wrong. Galatians 6:9 encourages us not to grow weary in doing good, "for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Persistence in faith means continuing to pray, worship, and follow God’s direction, even when you don’t feel like it. Every step of faith during tough times is a declaration that you trust God more than your circumstances.
One of the most critical actions during these moments is guarding what you allow into your mind and heart.
What you watch and listen to can either uplift or weigh you down. Proverbs 4:23 says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." In seasons of difficulty, it’s vital to filter out negativity or distractions and focus on sources that feed your faith, such as Scripture, worship music, and encouraging messages. Surrounding yourself with the right influences keeps your mind aligned with God’s promises, rather than being consumed by fear or doubt.
Encouraging yourself during bleak moments requires self-discipline and a shift in focus. David often encouraged himself in the Lord during distress, as seen in 1 Samuel 30:6. Speaking life over yourself, declaring God’s promises, and rehearsing His faithfulness can reignite hope. Instead of dwelling on what’s going wrong, remind yourself of past victories and how God has come through before. Through prayer, affirmations, and community, you can fortify your spirit to stay grounded in faith, even when life feels overwhelming. Trust that God is working behind the scenes, and in due time, His plans will unfold for your good.
